Elementary Moves on Triangulations
It is proved that a triangulation of a polyhedron can always be transformed into any other triangulation of the polyhedron using only elementary moves. One consequence is that an additive function (valuation) defined only on simplices may always be extended to an additive function on all polyhedra. 2000 AMS subject classification: 52B45; 52A38; 57Q15;
متن کاملElementary Moves on Polygonal Triangulations of the Disk
Definition 3 (Polygonal Triangulation). Let K be a two-dimensional simplicial complex (i.e., a collection of triangles). If K is homeomorphic to a disk, then it is called a triangulation of a disk. Furthermore, if K is a k-gon divided by diagonals into k − 2 triangles, then K will be called a polygonal triangulation. See Figure 1. A k-gon dissected into k − 2 triangles will be called a k-triang...
متن کاملSkein module deformations of elementary moves on links
This paper is based on my talks (“Skein modules with a cubic skein relation: properties and speculations” and “Symplectic structure on colorings, Lagrangian tangles and its applications”) given in Kyoto (RIMS), September 11 and September 18 respectively, 2001. The first three sections closely follow the talks: starting from elementary moves on links and ending on applications to unknotting numb...
متن کاملPachner moves, generic complexity, and randomising 3-manifold triangulations
We study the computational complexity of decision problems on triangulated 3-manifolds. In this setting there has been encouraging initial progress in recent years, but many important questions remain wide open. The “simple” problem of 3-sphere recognition and the related problem of unknot recognition are both known to be in NP, by work of Schleimer [18] and earlier work of Hass, Lagarias and P...
متن کاملThe Existence of Thick Triangulations – An “Elementary” Proof
We provide an alternative, simpler proof of the existence of thick triangulations for noncompact C 1 manifolds. Moreover, this proof is simpler than the original one given in [1], since it mainly uses tools of elementary differential topology. The role played by curvatures in this construction is also emphasized.
